The AE community is filled with individuals who are entrepreneurs, executives, employees, freelancers and more. What’s great about being part of the Dojo is that everyone has a similar goal. So you can bet someone in the community has already gone through what you are going through now and can provide guidance, advice and a few tricks.
As a freelancer, Jonathan quickly realized that time is gold. With no one telling him what to do he had to learn how to manage his own time with the work he was doing. That’s when a quick search on the internet led him to Asian Efficiency. He turned to the Dojo community and mini-courses to help him get organized. Now he has his systems in place and has more control over his life.
Read on and find out more about Jonathan’s productivity journey and why he is our productivity champ of the month.
Introducing Jonathan Fisher
Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you’re up to.
I’m Jonathan Fisher. So I live in Cape Town, South Africa (the most beautiful city in the world!) where I work online as a freelance copywriter. I don’t have a website yet, but I am on Upwork.
What is the backstory that ignited you to get started on becoming more productive?
When I got into copywriting and freelancing, I quickly realized that my time was my most valuable resource. And I needed to use my time efficiently and intelligently if I was going to consistently drive my results forward. That’s when Asian Efficiency first popped on my radar.
What was the wall or problem that you ran into that stopped you from accomplishing what you wanted?
Well, before joining Asian efficiency I had the horrible belief that I was just not an “organized type”. That meant for a while I didn’t have any systems to keep me on track and moving towards my goals. Even worse, I just felt anxious all the time and like I was “lost at sea”. As you can imagine that’s just a recipe for disaster! But luckily I wisened up and came across your website in my search for a solution.
What was the epiphany you experienced and discovered?
I realized that there’s no “productivity gene”. Productive people are not born, they’re made. Because it’s just a skill set… and like any skill set, it can be learned!
What was the transformation that you experienced?
After consuming and implementing tons of videos and articles in the Dojo – it’s an absolute GOLDMINE in there by the way – I suddenly felt like I had control over my life. My anxiety melted away, and I was left with the empowering feeling that I’m in the driver seat of my life. I now know what I need to do and how I’m going to do it. It’s a mental bliss!
If you have one piece of productivity advice for someone who is struggling to make progress towards their goals, what would it be?
My best advice is trial and error everything (Dojo provides plenty of incredible resources to experiment with), take massive action and record both feedback – journaling helps – and use that feedback to inform your next actions. Then it’s just a reiterative process towards optimization and enhanced productivity.
Thank you, Jonathan, for sharing!
Jonathan is a great example of what we refer to in our community as a “productivity champ” — someone who continuously looks for ways to become better or someone who has a growth mindset. Other examples of people who have succeeded are Lisa and Scott who we have written case studies about.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or distracted, you can overcome that and become a productivity champ too:
- Review our TEA Framework, and become familiar with the 3 Pillars of Productivity.
- Take our super-quick Productivity Quiz, which will give you actionable insight into where you should get started.
- Pick one (only one!) action step and schedule it on your calendar to implement it.
